Deputy Public Works Director / City EngineeCity of Salina, KansasSalary: $89,590 – $143,342 DOQMake a Lasting Impact on a Growing CommunityThe City of Salina is seeking a forward-thinking, experienced leader to serve as our Deputy Public Works Director / City Engineer. This is a high-impact leadership role where you’ll shape major infrastructure projects and guide the future of Salina through innovation, collaboration, and smart growth. If you’re a licensed Professional Engineer with strong project management and team leadership skills, we invite you to consider joining a team that is committed to excellence, sustainability, and service.Key Responsibilities.Key Responsibilities• Lead and oversee the Engineering Division, supervising engineers, inspectors, GIS, and construction coordination teams.• Direct infrastructure planning, design, and construction for public works citywide.• Serve as acting Director of Public Works in the Director’s absence.• Develop and manage the Capital Improvement Program (CIP).• Coordinate closely with contractors, consultants, and intergovernmental agencies.• Review contracts, maps, plats, budgets, and City Commission action requests.• Lead regulatory compliance for illicit discharge and erosion control.• Contribute to annual budget planning and department strategy.What You Bring• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (required).• License: Kansas PE license (or eligible within 6 months).• Experience: Minimum 5 years in civil engineering (municipal experience preferred).• Skills: Strong leadership, project planning, regulatory knowledge, and public communication.Why Salina?• Make a Difference: Your work will directly impact quality of life for Salina residents.• Work-Life Balance: Stable weekday schedule and generous PTO.• Supportive Culture: Team-oriented environment focused on innovation and service.• Career Growth: Be part of a high-functioning department with room for advancement.Pay & Benefits• Salary: $89,590 – $143,342 annually, DOQ• Time Off: 120 hours of vacation in year one; 96 hours sick leave.• Other Perks: Full benefits package, professional development, and leadership responsibilities from day one.Additional RequirementsCandidates must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license and reside within a 40-minute drive of Salina. The role may require attendance at evening meetings.
