HR Compliance & Safety Consultant

Position Summary:

The HR Compliance and Safety Consultant is responsible for leading the development, execution, and oversight of enterprise-wide compliance and advisory functions related to insurance products, operations, and regulatory obligations. This role serves as a key advisor to senior leadership and clients on insurance regulatory requirements and risk management, ensuring that all insurance-related activities adhere to applicable laws, rules, and industry standards across jurisdictions. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of insurance regulatory frameworks (state and federal), strong leadership skills, and a proactive, business-oriented mindset.

Key Responsibilities:

Compliance Oversight

  • Oversee compliance with all applicable state and federal insurance regulations (e.g., NAIC model laws, OSHA, Dodd-Frank, ERISA, ACA).
  • Lead regulatory monitoring efforts to track changes in insurance law and ensure timely implementation of necessary compliance measures.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures to ensure organizational adherence to insurance laws and best practices.
  • Coordinate and lead compliance audits, risk assessments, regulatory exams, and internal reviews specific to insurance operations.

Advisory Services

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to sales and senior leadership, and distribution teams regarding regulatory considerations.
  • Provide guidance on regulatory filings, licensing, product approvals, advertising compliance, and market conduct.
  • Support the development and launch of new insurance products by identifying and advising on regulatory and compliance risks.

Regulatory Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary liaison with insurance regulators and industry associations.
  • Lead responses to inquiries, exams, or investigations from State Departments of Insurance and other regulatory agencies.
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with regulators to foster transparency and proactive compliance.
  • Design and implement compliance training and awareness programs tailored to insurance operations.
  • Report regularly to executive leadership and the Board of Directors on compliance risks, trends, and mitigation strategies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the compliance function.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Business, Law, Risk Management, or related field
  • Professional certifications such as SHRM, AICP, CPCU, CCEP, or similar preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in insurance compliance or regulatory affairs; preference of 1-2 years in a leadership role
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in Human Resources compliance
  • Extensive knowledge of insurance regulatory environments, including multi-state regulatory requirements
  • Experience interacting and building relationships with regulatory agencies such as State Departments of Insurance and the NAIC
  • Experience working with life, health, property & casualty, and/or specialty insurance lines
  • Familiarity with insurance technology platforms and compliance monitoring tools
  • Strategic advisory and decision-making ability
  • Strong leadership and team development skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management
  • Ethical judgment and integrity
  • Travel may be required for regulatory meetings, industry conferences and site visits

Hours: Monday Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm
