Job Description

UPMC is looking for a network engineer to join their team. This will be a Hybrid role, allowing work from home but will require ON-SITE work. The individual will be primarily based in the Harrisburg Office but will be required to travel and support sites as far north as the Williamsport PA area, as far east as Philadelphia PA area, as far south as Washington DC area and as far west as McConnellsburg PA area. We are only accepting candidates who live within an hour drive of Harrisburg due to on-call responsibilities Description The primary responsibilities will be to assist in the building and configuration of the UPMC WAN as well as troubleshooting network issues as they arise. The main area of support will be Central and North Central PA Regions. The Network Engineer position will be part of a strategic team responsible for Network Design, building and deploying data center infrastructure in a 24x7x365 environment. Key to this position will be a focus on process automation in a secure, high performance, highly available (99.9995), and fully resilient infrastructure across multiple data centers and core locations. Top skills for individuals in this role. 1. Comprehension of network routing protocols. 2. Firm capability to troubleshoot simple to complex networks. 3. Implementing and managing networks. Responsibilities: + Implement using guidelines developed for the deployment and management of the network data center infrastructure and cabling plant. + Responsible for continuous self-study, trainings, partnering with more senior members of team, and/or seeking out opportunities to broaden scope to stay up to date with industry and organizational trends. Seeks feedback from senior team members for development and effectively incorporates feedback into work and behaviors. + Participate in network projects, troubleshooting, planning installation and management to deadlines. + Successfully completes projects, tasks, and initiatives by embracing a team-first approach. Works in collaboration with team and offers feedback, where appropriate, to complete individual and group efforts. Shows the ability to adjust and be flexible to change by adapting approach when necessary. + Utilize the tools, software and hardware to create a scalable, resilient, and responsive network. + Responsible for demonstrating appropriate, clear, concise, and effective written and oral communications in all interactions to build relationships and accomplish day to day work and projects. + Provide service to ISD client community, patients, families and visitors, while protecting the integrity and confidentiality of all data and information through physical and electronic measures. + Demonstrate understanding knowledge of the design, implementation, and scale of the corporate production network. + Participate in developing cross functional business and technical requirements for the enterprise. + Evaluate new hardware platforms and services. Qualifications * Typically has familiarity with IP networking and network design through education or practical experience. * Basic level competence in IP routing / switching technologies and protocols. * Basic level knowledge of QoS and queueing theory. * Ability to understand and implement routing configuration. * Understanding knowledge of Networking carrier grade hardware and software. * Exposure to managing enterprise systems, applications and endpoints with tools. * Basic network trouble-shooting and resolve skill set. * Collaborate with members of the engineering team on scaling. * Exposure to maintaining a 24 x 7 x 365 network infrastructure. * Basic understanding in communication and collaborative technologies. * Strong documentation skill set. Preferred Qualifications * Alcatel Lucent NRS I * Cisco CCNA * Exposure to SDN * Experience in programming / scripting network automation.
