Salary:

Promise Confections is seeking a Packaging Engineer to work at our corporate headquarters located in Pittsburgh, PA. The candidate will assume responsibilities for packaging research, development, design, testing, qualification and documentation of safe, cost-effective packaging structures, systems, and suppliers.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• 
  Develop, specify, and commercialize cost-effective packaging designs within established timelines.

• 
  Conduct on-site packaging trials to ensure new packaging meets company standards for performance and production efficiency.

• 
  Collaborate with the packaging supervisor and cross-functional teamsincluding food technologists, brand design, quality engineers, plant operators, marketing, and salesto drive the product development process.

• 
  Apply knowledge from packaging, mathematics, chemistry, material science, and other engineering to study the principles behind food processing, preservation, distribution, and product-package interactions.

• 
  Review graphic proofs to ensure compliance with structural requirements, including packaging size, style, material, seals, and features.

• 
  Stay up-to-date on current packaging requirements and standards across our distribution portfolio through continuous education.

• 
  Maintain strong relationships with current packaging suppliers while exploring new solutions and optimizing costs through design improvements and the qualification of alternative suppliers.

• 
  Enhance the functional performance of packaging designs in terms of supply chain handling and consumer usage requirements.

• 
  Develop and maintain accurate, comprehensive specifications for all packaging components.

• 
  Provide technical support throughout the supply chain to resolve packaging design and material issues.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/COMPETENCIES

• 0-5 years of experience in package development.
• Graduate or currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Packaging Engineering.
• Computer literacy in DraftSight/AutoCAD, TOPS Palletization Software, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Microsoft Office products.
• Understanding of packaging materials, converting processes, manufacturing capabilities & packaging equipment.
• Self-motivated, capable of managing a portfolio of project assignments with minimal supervision.
• High level analytical and logical problem-solving skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and oral/written communication skills.
• Travel to company owned facilities 15-20%.

This position reports to the Lead Packaging Engineer in the Operations Team / Research & Development department.
