Job Title: Program Room Aide
Job description:
The program room aide will attend to members’ personal care needs, lead/assist with program room activities and maintain proper safety standards. Personal care needs include toileting assistance, mealtime assistance, socialization & ambulation assistance as needed. Plan and lead structured activities with cognitively impaired seniors. Program room upkeep including washing the dishes, wiping down the tables, tidying up, watering the plants, picking up activities, engaging with clients 1:1 cleaning up after lunch, filling supplies in the restroom & program room. Other duties include: noontime medication assistance and transporting up to four clients home in the morning/evening. Must have a clean driving record. Must have basic understanding of dementia and be prepared to manage common behaviors (wandering, emotional outbursts, anxiety, boredom, confusion, etc.)
Requirements:
Willing to submit to a background/driving record check
Minimal experience with the elderly
Communication skills necessary for engaging in dialogue with seniors with dementia
A “team player” attitude, adaptable, trainable, patient
Takes the initiative to complete tasks in downtime without micromanagement
Willing to accept supervision and constructive feedback by program director
Be in good physical health (able to do repetitive bending, push a wheelchair and lift up to 25lbs)
Preferred:
Outgoing/good sense of humor
Students in nursing, gerontology, and social work encouraged to apply.
Compensation: $19-$22/hr (negotiable/DOE)
Schedule: Must be available M-F 8:30am-5:00pm
