Job Description & Requirements Title: Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) – Outpatient
Location: Silver City, NM
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Day 5x8-Hour (08:00 – 16:30), Monday–Friday
Job Responsibilities and Required/Preferred Skills & Requirements:
Provide physical therapy treatments in an outpatient setting with occasional inpatient coverage (approximately 80% outpatient / 20% inpatient).
\tAssist in patient evaluations, treatments, and implementation of care plans under the supervision of a Physical Therapist.
\tDeliver therapeutic exercises, functional training, gait training, and modality-based treatments.
\tPerform assessments, document evaluations, progress notes, discharge summaries, and short- and long-term goals.
\tEducate patients and families on home exercise programs, safety, injury prevention, and proper body mechanics.
\tManage a 1:1 patient ratio during day shifts and maintain effective time management.
\tWork with diverse patient populations including adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
\tRequired Qualifications:
Active New Mexico Physical Therapist Assistant license.
\tBLS certification.
\tExperience in both inpatient and outpatient physical therapy settings.
\tProficiency with Meditech charting system.
\tPreferred Skills & Experience:
Experience in outpatient clinics and aquatic therapy.
\tStrong background in orthopedics, including treatment of spinal conditions, joint replacements, post-operative care, and musculoskeletal injuries.
\tNeurologic rehabilitation experience (e.g., Parkinson's disease, post-stroke, spinal cord injury).
\tFamiliarity with therapeutic modalities such as ultrasound, TENS, e-stim, cryotherapy, moist heat, and lumbar traction.
\tExperience with gait training, prosthetic training, extremity mobilization, myofascial release, and spinal mobilization.
\tAbility to work with common assistive devices (gait belts, walkers).
\tKnowledge of billing practices for Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers.
